That stubborn chocolate!
After a good walk with my chocolate lab Emmy, I tried to persuade her to drink a bit of water from the toilet. I tried and tried to coerce my dog.... "Here Emmy. Get some water! Come on Emmy, drink some water! Emmy! Here!" After a few final attempts to get her to see the benefit, I was still unable to get her beyond the rim of the toilet bowl. Reality? I could get her to the bowl, but I could not get her to drink.
That's when the idiom, 'You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink' came to mind.
Likewise, have you ever tried to lead a friend or family member to water? Meaning, you have tried to lead them to a better place in their life: a place of joy, of peace or fulfillment?
The simple fact is, you can lead someone right to the resource of their need (water) but cannot force them to partake of it. They need to take the action to receive the good and desired result.
Jesus says the same thing to each one of us. He says, come to Me & drink the water of LIFE.
Those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life. John 4:14
Like the horse, sadly, some folks are lead right to the water trough, but turn away from the living water, just like my chocolate lab. You do not want to come to Me so you might have life. John 5:40
The good news is, there is never a time that you may thirst, that you cannot choose to drink of this water. :)
